A planted roof takes the edge off the heat that a bare deck radiates into the floor below, absorbs rainfall before it hits an overloaded drain, and turns dead roof area into something worth looking at.
The layers matter more than the plants. Root barrier, drainage board, filter fleece and substrate are installed over a waterproofing layer that is flood tested before a single tray goes down.
